In my paintings I am creating a new reality based on the subtle influence of fantasy. I paint lighthearted subject matters that are influenced from nature, friends, family and travel. These subjects have more of a folk tale feeling or dream like quality.
Within the subject matter, there are multiple colors and shapes which I intensify and flatten. I use the repetition of shapes and color to achieve balance and harmony. For me, the complexity does not come from intricate rendering, but rather thoughtfully placed color, and subtle tonal changes. I try to create depth by color change, rather from accurate perspective.
Moving to Austin, I was quickly inspired by the southern/ latin charm, the love of all things vintage, and of course the multitude of color combinations on every house and person. Here, I am finally making art my career. Creating a hybrid of fine art and fashion, and a lover of printmaking and t-shirts, I have now combined the two. I have been hand carving linoleum and making relief prints on t-shirts, vending them at various art shows around the city under the pseudo name, GiGiBunni. All though my first love is oil painting, this keeps my mind active, and is an extremely affordable way to own a piece of my art work, since every shirt is an original.
